TAP IT Groups
A TAP IT Group is an independent group of likeminded people responsible for IT in accounting and advisory firms, facilitated by Rob Pillans.
Whether you are a partner, general manager, practice manager, IT manager or some other role in the firm, if you have responsibility for IT, then this is the group for you. A goal of the group is to promote a culture of best practice and smart application of technology. Groups meet in Sydney and Brisbane multiple times per year. In between meetings members stay connected via a private online group in Microsoft Teams.
What to expect
Rob builds an agenda for each meeting and shares ahead of time, with members guiding some of the content.
There is a lot of discussion, information flows, ideas are brainstormed and exchanged, problems are solved, awareness is created, people are educated and horizons are broadened.
There is a special topic for each meeting where we go deep and this may involve a guest presenter.
Each firm presents a status update and shares any ideas the think would be useful for the group. They also ask questions of the group to get the benefit of the collective wisdom in the room.
Members note down all manner of ideas and action points gleaned from the meeting.
We also discuss some of the articles that Rob has curated from local and international sources on topics of interest for firm owners and managers.
The meetings are usually for half a day with all catering provided.
Once per year we do a benchmarking of firms to help with learning from each other.
The TAP IT NSW Group next meets on Friday 25 August then Friday 1 December in the Sydney CBD).
The TAP IT QLD Group next meets on a date to be confirmed in the Brisbane CBD.
The investment to participate is $500 + GST per firm per quarter which allows you to have two team members participate.
Feedback from TAP IT group members
TAP IT has proven a valuable tool for us. It allows us to keep abreast of what is happening. The meetings are well structured and the ability to network during breaks and/or after the meetings is very beneficial. Overall it is a great tool for sharing information, networking with others in our industry, learning of new products or new ways to do things.
– An IT Manager from a 7 Partner firm
I have no hesitation recommending membership of TAP IT as it is the only discussion group I am aware of that focuses on IT within accounting practices, and is “product agnostic”. I look forward to each meeting as I always take something away from them.

It’s a great tool for sharing information, networking with others in our industry, learning of new products or new ways to do things.
It’s a great forum against which to benchmark your firm, as well as tapping into a pool of IT skills and keeping up to date with the industry
– An IT Director of a 5 Partner firm
I find the TAP IT group a valuable resource. Not only has it allowed me to make contact with people in similar roles but it has also provided me with information about general procedures, hardware, and software, including feedback about specific benefits and limitations of commonly used software programs and problems with implementation and upgrading.
